- Honor anyone’s coupon. Any prospect with any coupon in their hand is a hot prospect. Expiration dates, items out of stock, even someone else’s coupon are all irrelevant. “Wow!” them.
- Astonish and Reward your customers. Make doing business with you worth their time. Make referrals worth their effort. Birthdays, flowers, customer appreciation enhance your relationship.
- Make high-tech be high-touch. Don’t falsely rely on focusing only on “free” Internet orders (which they are not, anyway), or “cheap” Internet marketing (which it isn’t), to save a buck.
- Build value; become a resource. For your company, for your website. Make yourself into a resource they turn to again and again… even when they don’t want to order now.
- Give more value in your offers. If you can’t sell it, you can’t give it away. If it’s a cheapskate, bum offer, don’t you think your customers will recognize it as such, and you’ll lose their respect.
- Create a family. People want to belong. What do churches try to do? What do banks try to promote? We’re a family.
- Get help when you need it. Find someone good to write your salesletters. Get someone in who understands tracking numbers and tweaking campaigns. Get outside the box thinking. Don’t assume you have all the answers… you don’t. Like Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you’re going, you might not get there!”
