Don’t insult your prospect, unless you’ve established a relationship that allows you to get tough

Just as with obscenity, insulting prospects is not something you want to do. You want to stroke them, remember? Your prospect is smart, successful, knowledgeable, and decisive. Because they are all these things, of course they want your offer!

The exception to this is the customer base that, through relationship, likes the “tell-it-like-it-is, pull-no-punches” personality. If that is what they appreciate, if they equate this with brutal honesty on your part, then give it to them. Still, do so sparingly, and as often as you can, use the third person approach (“you probably know someone who…”). Avoid vulgar words; use more moderate phrases like “moron”, “crazy”, etc. instead of harsher words like “idiot” or “stupid”.

Carpe Diem!
