As you can imagine, we’ve worked with a LOT of folks — Chairpeople, CEOs, business owners and entrepreneurs — and it’s amazing how many suffer from “shiny object” syndrome. I’m no psychologist but many have shared how much they suffer from Attention Deficit (ADD), Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) or some other attention-diverting issue in their lives.
It is critically important to separate the wheat from the chaff, the good ideas from the great ones, the profitable from the time and money drainers. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself spinning your wheels, stopping and restarting, changing directions and decisions repeatedly.
It would be great if we could go for every great idea, take advantage of every opportunity and pursue every “what if!?” that comes along.
One of the keys to success is going for the few, not the many.
Find the ones you want to pursue, give them your laser-focus and develop them, then repeat the process. Following this path ultimately makes it easier to “get ‘em rollin’” with each new product or service you introduce.
And it helps to have people on your team who know how to get your ideas and concepts up and running quickly.
